VOLUNTEERING - COLIN'S STORY
Colin, aged 58, joined VTF in June 2004 and volunteers by taking clients on outings and shopping as well as volunteering with the Gardening service.

"I always said that I would volunteer when I retired. I had worked all my life for the same company and retired from a good position. I knew I would need to do something meaningful and rewarding which involves people, but did not want to work in an office. At VTF I felt at home right away; I felt wanted and appreciated and that it would be worthwhile.

I love the gardening, seeing the visual difference; I also love assisting with shopping, games, outings, and the idea that we are assisting clients who are in their position through no fault of their own. It's great to see that we have made a difference to the quality of a client's life; there is no better buzz than seeing them laugh and enjoy themselves and hearing how much they are looking forward to the next outing.
Volunteering has exceeded my expectations, the team work, friendships, having your views listened to and acted upon. I would tell others to do so, you will feel appreciated, it does a lot for your self esteem, it is so worthwhile and makes you feel good!"
